This was the bit that Sam had dreaded - the infamous stretch of the racetrack running through the dark lake itself. They'd tried to get the recently purchased mare accustomed to nature as well as running through water. But the 4 year old had known nothing but the track, the stable and a loose paddock before she had arrived. She still tended to spook, sometimes even at the thrill of a bird if it was too close and too unexpected. He clenched his jaw shut, trying to grab on tighter with his legs as they plunged into the water, droplets splashing up clouding the field of vision. If he couldn't keep inside the set route, they were done for. Her ears against her head, Ghostface picked up her legs high, almost proceeding at a series of hops over the water rather than through it. Sam, too busy trying to stay on his horse and keep her from stopping completely, didn't notice the other riders around him - as one by one, with spashes and shouts and whinnies the other racers took on the Dark Lake.

*chuckles* I'm glad you like the water (especially since I was devious and sneaked off with the dirt track from Harlan's racing picture and turned it blue )
I do hope they do well...but since it's her first race with us, even just finishing counts as victory

I feel as if my being has left no trace of existance as a pebble thrown into a river leaves at the surface...
