Attack of the sandmonster

The two asotus were running here and there, dashing back and forth, leaping and rolling in the cloud into which the beach had turned as they churned up the sand and scared it so that it took flight in its desire to escape.

They did so with their tongues lolling and their breath heaving from the exertion.

Neither of them cared.

This wasn’t work. This was FUN.

Occasionally one of the flapping bits of paper would blow out towards the sea and land, quickly turning the neat handwriting into smears and the paper itself into sad, soggy lumps. There was no saving those scores.

“I am holding you two personally responsible for this,” said an angry looking official at the Kalawa grounds.

He gave both handlers a good dose of the ‘evil eye’ and continued, “you’d best hope that your asotus retrieve all those scoresheets that you lost. And that they’ll be in perfect order.”

There was little chance of that. And the day had started out so well. Now it looked like it was going to end on a whole different note. Maybe it would have been better to have stayed asleep and missed this whole disaster?

Hopefully, and it was probably a vain hope at that, the judges wouldn’t hold it against them when the time came for Llyr and Laahahana to take the two cows to their ‘real’ Kalawa tests.
