The light filtered down between the huge red trunks, bringing a faint warmth to the otherwise cold rocks scattered up and down the forrest floor. It was more than enough to see by. Even here, halfway up one of the mountains surrounding the valley, there were spread the odd trace of the place's ancient past - half covered carvings melted into the weathered surfaces of the halfbroken stones.

It had been a long day and not very good day - and it didn't look like it was going to get any better.
Mae, the owner of the Darklight Stables, brushed aside some of the residues of the previous residents, looking to see if something other than the grim red paw marks would give a clue to what had happened here.

Behind her, tossed against the rocks, what remained of one of the stable's unicorns lay, its body covered in blood, its horn broken. By the judge of things, it had been some fight...

The forrest was quiet....unusually quiet. Harlan flicked an ear nervously. He was used to these treks - taking them all over the valley floor and sometimes up into the mountains. Climbing over trecherous grounds, wading through swollen streams and making himself useful was all in a days work for him - but something here was making him feel uneasy.

A flick of the tail sent some of the spring flies heading for easier victims.

Yes...the forrest was far too quiet...

This has gone through quite a lot of transformations since I started working on it. Originally it was Harlan and the rider on a bare mountainside with just the top of some trees beneath them...well...as you can see...it changed. But I'm rather happy with it...though the treetrunks are too fuzzy.

Horse - cobbled together from some magazines
rocks - :iconfoxstox:
(well, you can't really see much semblence between the rock reference and the painiting, but I did use it)
Rest is unreferenced. *purrs* I'm very proud of that - though the treetrunks did turn out WAY too fuzzy.

<Hork-Bajir, come on out,> I said firmly. Slowly the big creature crawled out. He stood erect, blinking in the dim evening light.

"Not Hork-Bajir," he said. "Jara Hamee. My name. Jara Hamee."

Dr Eliza JS: Do you believe it's OK to be a sensitive snake?
Gabriel: Why, yes I rather do. Would you prefer if I was homicidal megalomaniac like my first children?

I see figures in your rocks^^

To be honest, I'm not entierly sure yet. By the looks of it, it would appear something large, lethal and at least vaguely cat-like has wandered into the valley.
Needless to say, we'll try and track this thing down asap - before we loose any of our other horses to it. Poor Weaver - he was such a gorgeous horse too.

you do? Excellent!! I tried to make them look like they were both just rock and figures at the same time. It worked :boogie:

Having all these ancient ruins dotted about the valley makes for having some real fun with the backgrounds sometimes :D
