Silent, ever watching...the rare visitor gazed down upon the land below him. There were stairs leading up here, ancient stairs carved out of the face of the rock, now all but forgotten, hidden away under the creeping moss that had covered them.
In days gone by, there had been a watchtower built here. Now there were barely any traces of the ruins left, nothing but a few bumps and boulders at the peak of the cliff, scraped free by the blistering winds and rains in the winter.
The lower half of the stairs had long since been lost. Now no one but the winged horses came here, a favoured lookout spot for the pegasi that were slowly growing in numbers in the valley and surrounding mountains.
But the watcher needed no wings to carry him, no bridges to cross the canyons, no shelter from the fiercest winds.
Below him stretched out the Darklight Valley - a sheltered hideaway, a haven for equines of all kinds. They were few in numbers, but they would grow. As the seasons would come and go, so would the mares and stallions and foals that called this place home.
He was only a visitor here...like many others before him and yet others that would come after. For now, it was enough to see this place thriving...alive with life of all kinds - from the shyest unicorn to the fiercest elemental, from the soaring pegasi to their earthbound cousins.
