“This is ridiculous,” Llyr announced to the world.

The world didn’t take much notice. It never did … anymore. Worse, at the moment it
seemed to be expecting him to behave. Right about now, the only one interested in
behaving were the judges – in fact, they were VERY keen on that idea.

Somehow Llyr didn’t think that they’d agree to disagree on that one.

He looked around at his fellow entrants into this part of the Kalawa tests. They seemed
to know what they were doing and, on top of that, so did their asotus. Both hunting and
endurance Llyr understood well enough – they hadn’t needed to practice for that, just
doing what they always did (though with a lot less frolicking around as far as Furi had
been concerned). But this, he hadn’t had the faintest idea of how to practice for it.

True, he could have asked some of the folk he knew (no matter how little) but that idea
burned with embarrassment. Llyr hated feeling inadequate. It wasn’t a sensation or feeling
he was accustomed to.

Glancing around he tried to square up Furi as best he could.

The asotu was feeling happy and was more interested in meeting new friends than in
standing still and looking pretty. Furi tugged against the lead and subsequently sulked
when Llyr wouldn’t let him.
