Seconds Apart

The rider flinched as the lighningbolt struck only a few hundered meters away.
The spring foxhunt had started out so well - not even the wheatherman had had anything bad to say about the day. Perhaps that should have been a clue.
Now - nature was empting the skies, bringing her full powers to bear as the lands of Dark Lake were pounded beneath howling winds, tearing at the trees and buildings alike, and swaths of rain and hail.
It had gone on for what seemed like hours, but Mae knew it couldn't possibly have been that long, or the hunt would already have been over. The more sensible riders had already sought shelter, leaving only the bravest, or perhaps the most foolhardy, seeking the fox.
Mae looked down at the horse, as if trying to see though his skull and into his eyes, even from where she was sitting. The young woman frowned, gripping the reins tighter - even though she didn't need to.
The stallion below her didn't as much as flinch at the electric display. It was as if for him it wasn't even there...or at the very least, not worthy of being noticed.
He had noticed the small furry redness that was smattering in the wind, caught on the branches of a worn old tree, but didn't bother to draw his riders attention to this. She wanted to play this game by the rules...then that's what they were going to do - even if he thought the whole thing was silly.
"Fury...if this storm is somehow YOUR doing...you're going to be in SO much trouble" the young woman chided him while squinting out into the darkness beyond.

I've been working on this off and on ever since Life announced the new foxhunt
For some reason the upload has lost a ton of detail...but oh well.. :shrugh: I'm still happy with it/.
