DarkLight Stables

Stallions Mares

The narrow, barely used, trail winds its way through the mountains, alternating between hugging the mountain-sides and snaking its way along the bottom of canyon floors. Here and there along the way you catch glimpses of ancient ruins, some stones here, some barely standing statues there and throw wishful glances at what remains of what must once have been a bridge crossing a particularly nasty looking gorge, too little of it is left for you to cross over it, so you have to keep going on what seems barely more than an animal path.
You rummage through your pack and manage to locate a rolled up scroll, while cursing that you couldnt drive instead, or fly in helicopters had to be good for something. But not, instead you had to go all the way on horseback there was little else that the guide at the beginning of the trail had told you when youd driven up, thinking that youd reached your destination. No, you sigh, according to the directions written on it, youre defiantly going the right way.
Much muttering later, especially about the stable owner being very adamant about you not charting a helicopter to solve the problems. Of course, you'd do that anyway - but you can't find the bloody place on any of the maps you've consulted. So what do you do?
You keep following the instructions... Along the way the trail takes you through a natural rockformation taking the shape of a big connected arc. You ride right on through. It's beautiful...but at the time you notice nothing special about it. The landscape is the same...mountains and...what you guess...more mountains. Perhaps you look up into the sky and notice the shape of an unfamilar bird in the sky....
...except that's no bird.
In fact...what you just rode through so casually was a portal, a portal between worlds. One of only two in existence. The
Gate of Heaven Welcome...to Darklight Valley!

Some of our horses are stabled at the stable itself an old reclaimed ruin from ages past, but the majority of them roam freely through the valley. In some cases, they are wild horses and we prefer to let them remain that way; either because it suits them better or because theyre simply too dangerous to try and tame. Also, our stable has very limited indoor space and we pride ourselves on that our horses are quite capable of surviving on their own, creating a creature that is not only pleasing to look at, but also hardy and unlikely to succumb to simple ailments or a bit of rain if left out in the paddock on a cold night.
We do try to keep a watchful eye on them though, especially the mares that are in foal and both the stable owner, Mae, and her only helper, Seranthiem, spend a lot of their time in the saddle, going about the valley and mountains, building work or other jobs necessary to see the stable throughout the year.
The stable itself is an old reclaimed ruin from times gone by. Much of it is still uninhabitable for humans or horses, but were working on it.
NEWS

Please welcome our new stallion
Wave Rock . A young Australian Stock Horse purchased from

While still a bit young to be worked hard around the valley, this lovely fellow is already taking an interest in following our ordinarly work horse Harlan around - not to mention enjoying watching the comings and goings of the stable's human and equine inhabitants.
While he still seems a bit puzzled over the landscape, the green, and with winter approaching, increasingly cold, valley being very different from the Australian outback where he gre up - he seems to enjoy himself. And we have high hopes for this fella, both in the valley and outside it.

Thanks Nyxen, I finally managed to figure it out after looking at that. Guess I was just looking for the journal link material in the wrong place

Dr Eliza JS: Do you believe it's OK to be a sensitive snake?
Gabriel: Why, yes I rather do. Would you prefer if I was homicidal megalomaniac like my first children?
I just couldn't resist it anymore...it looked like so much fun *chases after her own tail*

"Well, I'm not sure it is either. I'm not sure it is either. It depends on how it's done. It depends on the circumstances. It depends on who does it."
